Heart-Shaped Box by Joe Hill

A Unique Premise for a Ghost Story

A great debut novel by Joe Hill! The book centres around a group of flawed people, all with their own stories of the abuses they suffered as children and of secrets held. No one is safe, from the famous rock star, to the 13 year old niece of one of his girl-friends, all live their own tormented lives trying to forget. A collector of the bizarre, Jude Coyne receives an email offering him the chance to buy a “ghost”, a woman’s stepfather, who she said was haunting her daughter. The arrival of the package, a suit the man was buried in, begins a circuit of deaths and Jude must fight for his life and the life of his current girl-friend. The vindictive ghost assures him that anybody who aids him in this fight will die. “The dead pull the living down.”

The “Heart-Shaped Box” will really keep you on your toes. This is one of the scariest yet satisfying ghost stories I’ve read, there was continuity, and it held me entranced throughout. I highly recommend this book to anyone who likes ghost stories, mysteries, the paranormal and suspense, you won’t want to put it down.
